What can and can not were at a wedding !? - baby boy formal wear

Okay, I know what kind of dress I want a Cousinenehe.

A little background:
My family is large and very diverse. While some conservatives are not very formal. The two have lived together and have a little boy.

I thought about using a simple cocktail dress ... black or other dark color, since they usually at night. I think black with a red belt and red shoes would cover ... but I'm not sure if Red is correct. (I do not wear white.)

Any idea or advice.
